Independent cinema provider Empire Cinemas has been selected by Basildon Council to operate a new 10-screen cinema in East Square as part of the town's regeneration. The proposals include six units allocated for restaurant use as well as improvements to the look and feel of the square.
Previously under no overall control, Basildon Council has been claimed by the Conservatives, who took the overall majority with five more seats to reach 23, which was previously under no overall control. UKIP lost half of its seats, from 10 to five.
