Council considers leisure complex plan
A planning application to build a leisure complex in Basildon town centre has been submitted to the council, following approval granted for funding in December 2017.
The plans include a 10-screen cinema with six units for bars and restaurant use on East Square, along with improved public spaces.
Architect Pollard Thomas Edwards was appointed by Basildon Council in January to design the complex and civic space, next to the grade II-listed Brooke House.
Alan Ball, council chairman of the regeneration and environment committee, praised the vision: "This development is a great opportunity to boost the local economy and provide new jobs for local people.
"We want East Square to be a destination of choice rather than convenience, and are committed to creating a vibrant town centre with a viable night-time economy."
