Modular construction factory to open
Swan Housing Association has announced plans to open a modular construction factory in Basildon.
The group anticipates the factory will produce 500 homes for its £100 million scheme at Craylands estate and that it will create 40 jobs.
It is aimed that eight new homes will be produced every month, the first of which are scheduled for delivery in 2017.
Geoff Pearce, Swan's executive director of development and regeneration, said: “We already have our own in-house skilled construction team and so as both the constructor and developer of the homes, we are perfectly placed to manage the process of building homes off-site efficiently and to the highest standards.
"We are convinced that this method will enable us to deliver modern, high quality homes that people will want to live in.”
Swan is also working on its masterplan for the redevelopment of the Laindon shopping centre, bringing together retail units, proposals for a new Swan head office and new homes.
The emerging plans also show Swan’s desire to work with partners to bring about a new NHS health centre for the area.
