First council homes in decades

The first new council homes in 30 years are to be built in Basildon.

A ceremony to mark the start of building work in Quendon Road was attended by Council Phil Turner, Basildon Council leader (forth from left), members of the council’s development and investment team and representatives of the developer, Indecon Buildings

Work has started to create 11 homes to be allocated as affordable across three vacant sites in the borough.

In Quendon Road, Basildon, four two-bedroom houses are being built on the site of the former Essex County Council children’s centre.

Four two-bedroom houses are being built in Victoria Road, Laindon, and three two-bedroom houses are being built in Rettendon Gardens, Wickford.

The project is being carried out by Wickford-based Indecon Building and is part of the council’s New Homes Programme.

Work is expected to complete towards the end of the year.
