South Essex councils join forces for new homes

Seven South Essex councils have come together to launch a blueprint to boost housing, create jobs and improve infrastructure across the region.

The Association of South Essex Local Authorities (ASELA) - comprising Basildon, Brentwood, Castle Point, Essex County, Rochford, Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock Councils - was formed in January to drive economic growth across borough borders.

Its joint infrastructure and strategic plan was awarded £871,000 of government funding to start the work.

Louise McKinlay, chair of ASELA and leader of Brentwood Borough Council and said: "We have set out our commitment to ensuring that all of our local plans will be delivered in a joined up approach, with an emphasis on making the case very clearly to the government for the major infrastructure that will be absolutely essential to support our expanding and new communities across the region, whilst maximising job opportunities within an expanding economy."
