MP praises "innovative" modular housing
Mark Francois, MP for Wickford and Rayleigh visited developer Swan NU Living's modular housing factory in Basildon last month to see its delivery of homes for the Beechwood development.
Francois was greeted by Swan's executive director of regeneration and development, Geoff Pearce, as well as the managing director of the factory, Paul Williamson, before touring the factory to see the work in progress.
Francois commented: "I had a really enjoyable and informative visit where I have seen a highly advanced factory for building homes for the 21st century. It's great to see innovative methods like this being used to provide homes for people across south Essex."
The group then visited the show homes and marketing suite at the Beechwood site, where there was a demonstration of the home configurator, which gives buyers the opportunity to design their new home.
Pearce highlighted the benefits of constructing the homes off- site: "This approach sets schemes like Beechwood apart, pushing the bar higher whilst delivering better-quality homes for residents. I am convinced that off-site will enable us to deliver more high quality homes, more quickly, to help meet the growing demand and it's great to have the support of local politicians like [Mark] Francois."
Francois' tour followed a similar visit by James Murray, London’s deputy mayor for housing, in June.
