Town centre campus to go ahead
Basildon Council has approved South Essex College's planning application for a town centre campus.
The building, on the site of the current Basildon Market, will be a three-storey facility catering to IT, digital technologies and science students. The development will also include car parking, public open space, shops and landscaping.
David Dadds, vice chairman of Basildon Council’s regeneration committee, said: "This state-of-the-art campus in Market Square will provide fantastic opportunities for young people from across the borough and beyond. We are committed to creating opportunities for all and doing all we can to support education and employment providers.
"This decision is a significant milestone in our ambitious regeneration plans for Basildon, which will bring more life into the town centre and boost the economy."
